NOTIFICATION OF BCG ANNUAL
GENERAL MEETING
When: 7:30pm Monday 24
September 2007
Where: Bardon Bowls Club, Bowman Pde, Bardon
Amendment of annual competition rules and procedures
In view of the late running of Annual Competition judging nights in recent years, the Committee recently proposed a reduction in the number of Annual Competition entries allowed per member. A number of members have raised concerns about this proposal.
The committee discussed these concerns, and a range of possible alternative strategies we could employ to ensure that the 2007 Annual Competition judging nights finish promptly at 10:15pm as required by our venue, Bardon Bowls Club.
We now propose the following:
- the committee will assess the number of entries we receive for each section of the annual competition;
- if we receive a large number of entries we will advise of an early start time (6:30pm) for that competition;
- the annual competition judging nights will finish promptly at 10:15pm, if the judging is not complete then arrangments will be made for the judges to complete the process in their own time and the members will be advised of the results.
In addition, the competitive nature of the
annual competition has been undermined in some instances by a low number
entrants. To ensure the integrity of the competition, the Committee has
resolved to introduce the following condition:
For
future annual competitions there must be at least three competitors in each of
B and AB grades (slide, print or DPI) for that grade to run individually in the
competition. In the event that there are fewer than three entrants in either
category, B and AB will be combined as a “non-A Grade” judging.
Hopefully this change will also assist in the smooth and quick running of the judging, thereby saving some time.
MOTION 2 - Amendment
of annual competition rules and procedures
The Committee has also noted that the current practice of
dividing entries in Section 4 (People) into the subsections 4a (Portrait) and
4b (People in their Environment) creates unnecessary confusion when entrants
are submitting images and introduces additional complexity to the organizing
and judging process.
Therefore, the motion to be considered is that:
Section 4 of
the annual competition should be consolidated to a single category, with the title of that category to be determined by a vote.
If this motion is successful, and members agree to consolidate Section 4, they will be asked to vote for one of the following options:
Option 1: Section 4 should be renamed ‘Portrait’ and limited to traditional
portraitur. Images previously submitted under subsection 4b (People in
their Environment) may be entered in the Pictorial or Photojournalism /
Social Documentary sections.
Option 2: Section 4 should continue to be named 'People' and should be open to any images with people as the primary subject, including portraits and people in their environment, which will be judged together.
