MONTHLY COMPETITION POINTS

Points for images entered into monthly competitions have two components:

  • Place Points which are based on the judge’s evaluation of the image (0-10).
  • Entry Points which are awarded for the effort of entering a print or set subject are in addition to Place Points.

Explanation to the above:   * +1 point for each image entered in the set subject section.

** +1 point for each print entered.

Images from the Monthly competitions may be entered at the End of Year competitions. Specifically, the Best of The Best Competition which is aimed at awarding the Best of the Monthly competition entries throughout the year, and the Annual Set Subject competition. MASTERS “A” Grade Competition 

Each year, A grade competition entrants may be allocated a ‘Masters’ Title/Award based on achieving an average image score of 7 and above from their best scoring 24 images submitted in any given competition year. This score is based on total judges points alone with no extra points allocated for DPI/print of the night,  printing and set subject as set out in the table below and used in the club Championship competition.

In order to qualify and be in the running for a Masters award a member must enter a minimum of 24 images throughout the competition year. 

The yearly average image score is calculated from the highest scoring 24 images for the competition year eliminating the lowest image scores for up to 3 images for the year (if images have been submitted in all competition months).

Use this score to disqualify an entry. An image may be disqualified if:

·Image considered to not fit the given definition of the Set Subject

·Image clearly infringes on another artist's copyright or contains material of an inappropriate nature.

Acceptance

1

The image displays serious technical defects, such as extreme under or over exposure, very poorly handled focus, substantial (and clearly unintended) camera movement, or similar problems.

The image has noticeable technical defects or noteworthy shortcomings in image content.

3

The image does not have significant technical defects and is acceptable in most respects with noteworthy shortcomings in image content. However, there may be evidence that composition, lighting, etc. has not been well controlled. The creator is encouraged to look at camera settings and or improve the image through post-processing.

4

The image is considered acceptable in technical, content, composition and creates some interest for the viewer. The score could be raised by some improvements (indicated by the judge) The creator is encouraged to keep working on certain aspects of the image as suggested by the judge.

Commended Acceptance

5

The image is good in most respects. Technical aspects and image content demonstrates the Creator to be at ease with all aspects of photography and is creating sustained interest for the viewer.

Merit

6

The Image has been very well produced. The Creator has a strong understanding of composition, lighting, exposure and sharpness. The image tells a story (Judge to point out). Some aspects of the image could be improved (suggested by Judge) which could raise the image to higher score.

The image is strong and the handling of all, or most, of the image aspects is very good. Technical aspects and image content have been very well handled. The image is telling a story or message very well. It has some very minor issues which can be pointed out by the judge. This could have elevated the image much higher.

 

High Merit

8

The image is very strong and the handling of all aspects of the composition is excellent. With only one minor improvement (suggested by the judge) the image could have been elevated to the level of an Honour.

The Creator has demonstrated exceptional skill and is worthy of special recognition.

The image is of the very highest quality and is unlikely to be improved.

DPI & Print of the Night

+2

In the judge’s opinion, it is the best digital and printed for the month from any grade in the competition.This score is used to designate an “Image of the Month” for ONE DPI image and ONE Printed image. Note: The points can be added to any of the honour’s levels.

Print Quality

The judge should consider aspects of the printing by the entrant when scoring a print. The Judge should take into account the overall the presentation of print such as the choice of paper and taking into account any defect like colour casting and other printing issues. 

The judge is not to deduct points if the print is not matted correctly as it may have been affected in the transportation of the print.  

HUNT & SHOOT COMPETITION POINTS

10 points are allocated for first place, 5 for second and 3 for third.  1 point is allocated to each member who entered the competition.
